Lake Samish
Lake Samish Neighborhood

Samish Park Lake Samish is approx. 4 miles in length and 810-acres in size making it the second largest lake in the Bellingham area. Located about 6.5 miles south of Bellingham, the lake can be seen when travelling on I-5 between Alger and Bellingham. Since it is nestled between the forested hillsides of Chuckanut Mountain to the west, Blanchard Mountain to the south and Lookout Mountain to the east, Lake Samish has maintained its rural character.

Lake Samish is heavily used by local residents for summer recreation including swimming, paddling, boating, jet skis and fishing. It is also used for rowing practice by the WWU crew teams. Camp Lutherwood is located on the northwest shore of the lake and is host to summer camps, retreats and various gatherings. Public access to this beautiful lake is limited since most of the lake's shoreline has been developed with private homes.

Shopping

The closest convenience store is located at the N. Lake Samish exit of I-5. Another convenience store is located near the southern end of the lake at the Alger exit. There are no other commercial areas near the lake. Residents must drive north to Bellingham or 16 miles south to Burlington to do their shopping.

Parks

Samish Park is a Whatcom County Park located at the north end of Lake Samish. The parking lot of this popular park is often full during the hot, summer days. Samish Park has a swimming area, children's playground, picnic areas, hiking trails (below), fishing dock and has a variety of non-powered boats for rent in season (right). Samish Park is open year round for fishing and the lake has a variety of fish although it is not stocked. The park has a Day Lodge available for rental during the off season.

The WDFW public access area has a boat ramp and is located on the eastern side of Lake Samish. This parking area is open during daylight hours and requires a permit. Gas-powered boats are allowed on Lake Samish.
